Ford F150 Engine Failsafe Mode. Get the fault code memory read at a garage and this may give you a clue as to a possible problem developing. To clear the message and restore engine performance I have to pull over put the transmission in park shut off the engine wait a minute or two and restart. Took to local shop charged me 250 for a diagnostic and 2 hours additional labor. I have a 2005 F150 Lariat 4x2 automatic which went into fail safe mode while driving down the highway. Brake light on - We have had our 2005 F-150 King Ranch for about 10 years now. The truck has 98000 miles. The vehicles ECM will control the amount of fuel entering the engine in order to control engine speed. Its also common for damaged transmission components like inner gaskets seals the torque converter mechanical gears the input shaft or even a damaged flywheel or driveshaft to cause the failsafe mode to activate.
